usability

i don't know what people think right away when i tell them i am a web developer, but as one, it is important to gauge what is deemed "normal" by every potential user of my applications. i always put my work in front of the people around me and beg them to not think about it when they click around a page, rather act "normally". that way, i can really get a glimpse into the mindset of all of those other people out there that i cant stand next to. this is what they call usability testing. it's crude at times, but it's immensely useful when you are creating an interactive experience. the more people you can accommodate and the clearer the message, the more effective you will be. it's that simple.
